Continuing on with my Most Reached For series, today it is all about getting that flawless face with foundation.
I'll outline my 5 favourites that I keep going back to over and over, and the reasons why I love them.
I love all 5 of these foundations, but do find myself reaching each one for different reasons. Some of these definitely fall into the "worth the hype" category, others are underdogs I am surprised I don't hear more about.
Mac Studio Sculpt is the only foundation by Mac that my drier skin likes. This is a thick creamy texture that I find a great medium full coverage on its own, but where I truly love this is its ability to mix with any other foundation of my liking. I keep it in two shades for this purpose (nw15 and nw30)
Want a little more coverage out of your BB cream or tinted moisturizer, mix it with this. Since the summer sun has finally popped out, I have been loving a bit more of a fuss free base, so I have been reaching for my Diorskin Nude BB Cream, which blends on like a dream, then sort of sets itself, no powder needed! Since my shade 02 is a touch light for my summer skin, I have been mixing equal parts with the Studio Sculpt nw30 for the perfect shade, coverage and finish!
Makeup Forever Face and Body is the underdog here - I truly LOVE this foundation but never hear much about it. Unlike Macs Face and Body offering, this does not stay tacky feeling, and is easily the most buildable foundation I've used while still looking like skin. The texture is very different than any of the other bases I have tried too, almost jelly like in consistency but feels like water blending into the skin and I have no need for powder to set. I simply adore it applied with a buffing brush, and it seems to adapt to all skin types well as well as I seem to get away with wearing the same shade (20) regardless if I am tanned or not. Not sure how that science works, but it does!
Now on to the two that boast more of a radient finish. Yves Saint Laurent Le Teint Touche Eclat was mucho hyped up and I can truly see why. This liquidy foundation leaves me skin feel baby bum soft and gives a light to medium luminous look. It feels weightless on the skin and still stays radient even if you need to set with a bit of powder. Truly worth the heftier price tag in my books, I love this in the winter time when my skin just needs to feel a bit perkier. My shade is BD40 and I prefer to apply this with my fingers.
Rivalling this in the glow category is a drugstore foundation that has seriously impressed me, Rimmel Wake Me Up. The texture of this is more of a creamy consistency compared to the YSL, but also gives that glow factor. I will say this foundation doesn't sink into the skin as well as the YSL so I like to buff it in, but it has more of a solid medium coverage. I have shades 100 and 303 to match my winter skin and self tanned skin.
What are your favourite bases? Do you have one or more foundations you keep going back to? Which is your tried and true always looks great foundation?
