Concealer is one of the first makeup items I remember finding intimidating. Back in my teen years it was mostly found in a lipstick like tube because the formula selection was dismal by todays standards. It was thick, cakey and often tangerine tinted. I remember all my friends just referred to it as 'cover up' - the word 'concealer' meant nothing to us.
These days, we are blessed to have concealing products in all different consistencies, as well as for various different purposes. Here are four of my favourites, and what I like to use them for...
The Correcting Concealer - my pick: Benefit Erase Paste
This is the one that you want to use when things are looking really dark under your eyes and in your inner eye corners. It generally has a peach/salmon undertone to it, which can seem scary, but it is meant to be layered under another product to then neutralize. Less is more with this guy, or you might experience creasing. I like to pat it on with fingers.
The 'On the Go' Concealer - my pick: Urban Decay 24/7 Concealer Pencil
This is the one you can throw in your purse and draw on in a moments notice. It is creamy but thick enough to cover and then stick to stubborn spots and redness. It blends out with a finger which makes on the go stubborn spot treating a snap.
The Anti-Crease Under Eye/Highlighting Concealer - my pick: Mac Pro Longwear Concealer
This concealer is a light liquid cream hybrid that blends out thinly and then sets all day long. Because of how thin it can stay, it layers well and blends well with brushes, fingers or a damp sponge, but my preferred method is a densely packed brush like my Sigma F84 or Beauty Blender to press it into the skin. This also makes it a great highlighting concealer if you are wanting some brightness under eyes and in the T Zone.
The Heavy Duty Face Concealer - my pick: Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer
This product has a super creamy, super pigmented formula. Because of how creamy it is, it sits on top of blemishes and pigmentation extremely well, but bare in mind it needs to be set with powder to lock it in place. This works especially well on spots that are raised slightly and will benefit from a thicker formula. I find this formula works best warmed up on the fingertips and then applied with a pressing motion with fingers.
Those are four different types of concealers I like to keep to hand for various reasons. What are your favourites? Do you like to use different concealer products for different uses?
