Back at the beginning of August I was invited to a special Sephora VIBRouge event and I was able to take a friend. Normally I would take my makeup loving bestie because we fawn over everything and totally just "get it" when it comes to the borderline unhealthy obsession for beauty bits. However, she was out of town, so I took my other gal pal who is relatively unexperienced when it comes to makeup and besides totally overwhelming her, I may have talked her into a few (or many) purchases that night.
So what do you do when you are working with a blank canvas so to speak? You tell her the things she needs in her life.
So an initial tour of the place, I showed her three specific things that I knew fit her needs. She had mentioned to me that she really wanted an eyeshadow palette. It needed to be compact with good neutrals and wore well from day to night. So I immediately took her over to the palette that has made heavy rotation with me since it was reissued months ago: the Too Faced Natural Eyes Palette.
Next we had a little chat about some issues she was having with blackheads and stubborn blemishes. Enter in Glam Glow Supermud. You can read my blog post about it here. For someone who suffers from really visible blackheads, this stuff is insanely good and utterly satisfying.
Finally came the purchase she didn't know she was going to make until I basically forced her to buy it. Being a liquid liner lover, she had only ever used drugstore versions. I noticed she struggled with fading and getting it precise and so I picked up a Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper and tossed it in her basket. No questions asked, she had complimented my winged liner on many occasion, and I think she knew not to argue with me on that one! You can read my post about it here.
It can be quite refreshing to shop with someone who isn't as makeup and skin savvy. It reminded me to really pick things I knew she would love, because building a collection isn't part of her interests.
When was the last time you talked a friend into buying makeup or skincare? Do your friends love or loathe makeup?
