When the Mara Hoffman Collection for Sephora arrived on my doorstep not long ago I was immediately smitten with the patterns! Her whimsical and wanderlust inspired prints are so much fun, and I was thrilled to see how cohesive the collection ways. I'll be reviewing a few pieces from the collection over the next little while, but today it's all about gloss! Besides being a total bargain, the Mara Hoffman for Sephora Kaleidescape Lip Gloss set is totally adorable. So how is the colour payoff and wearability? Keep reading to find out!
The Mara Hoffman for Sephora Kaleidescape Lipgloss Set comes with 5 very wearable glosses, all capped off with the designer's fun, nature-inspired prints. Little sets like this are such a great gift to give a gloss lover in your life; With a shade range from cool pink to neutral to coral, there is something for everyone.
Sephora states that these are high shine, medium coverage and non-tacky in finish, and I would agree with all three of those statements! I noticed immediately upon application how smooth and nourishing they felt; My lips had more glide to them that most lip glosses which leave a sticky feel that I hate. I am guessing the organically sourced manuka honey, shea and cocoa butter as well as sunflower oil that is in the formula is what gives these a comforting feel on the lips. There are no sulphates, phthalates or parabens in these glosses, and they have no discernable scent that I can smell.
On the lips, these give a plump, even appearance and don't settle badly into lines. All five shades showed up on my pigmented lips, and the pale nude shade didn't apply streaky (as you can see from the image above!) which is a big bonus to me. One or two of the shades looked to have a subtle shimmer in the tube, but it didn't translate to the lips for me, personally.
In terms of lipgloss, these are really very nice! They didn't gum up around the corners of my mouth and wore away nicely like a balm would. The medium coverage is about the opacity I generally want for a gloss, and I didn't have any issues with blotchy application or uneven wear. The only disadvantage to a product like this is that they don't have particularly long of a wear time, however, given the nature of lipgloss it really is what I've come to expect.
I will say there is one thing I don't like about the Mara Hoffman for Sephora Kaleidescape Lipglosses, and that is the cardboard caps. While I get that Mara has taken a liking to eco-friendly beauty, cardboard caps just aren't practical for an item that is bound to get tossed in a handbag. I wish they had done the pattern in plastic, because the paper lids will get grungy and battered, not to mention nasty if they get wet at all. It's something Stila put on the market back in the 90s as a signature look, and then thankfully rebranded a few years back when they realised it just didn't function well for cosmetics. It's not a deal-breaker for me, as these are really lovely lipglosses, just something to note if you are one to not take much care of your cosmetics.
The Mara Hoffman for Sephora Collection is limited edition, so make sure you snag it now if these interest you! I'll be reviewing a few other pieces from the collection shortly.
