"Love Yourself Before You Can Love Someone Else"
-Laura Mercier
I'm thrilled to be bringing you all another volume of The Artistry Series, this time spotlighting the beautiful Laura Mercier. Starting out in a Parisian Art School for drawing and painting, Laura's career jump started in 1985 when she moved to New York to work for Elle Magazine. Then after a photoshoot for Vogue, she was hired on as Madonna's personal makeup artist (that might be when you know you've 'made it' so to speak!)
Celebrity name dropping aside (because Laura never actually had the desire to work with movie stars and pop princesses for her career goal in the beginning, she just aimed to make women feel pretty), I think the brand has to be one of my favourites simply because I know the products are reliably well made and make for effortless prettying up.

"I go through stages where I'm obsessed with one look. For years I wore nothing but matte red lipstick."
The Laura Mercier Cosmetic range was founded in 1996, and you could say the rest was history. The brand prides itself on having a focus of 'the flawless face' and her products are all about perfecting your own features, rather than 'correcting' them. A self proclaimed 'Bohemian Spirit", Laura loathes rules when it comes to makeup and fashion, and couldn't be bothered what the projected trends are. Laura Mercier makes beautiful, timeless cosmetics, that fit the needs of the everyday woman as much as the red carpet glam girl.
I've got some definite favourites from the line. There might even be one or two products I get a little itchy about when they get low...yep, that good folks! Put these on your 'to drool over' list for the next time you treat yourself to something new:
The Eye's Art Artist Palette - I've talked about this so much around here it's a no brainer. Think neutrals, think plums, think mattes, think shimmers... all in one perfectly handy palette full of smooth and silky shadows.
Secret Brightening Powder - This has been a backstage favourite for eleventy billion years and the minute you try it, you'll know why. It sets your under eye concealer from creasing, but has these microfine reflective particles that instantly make your eyes look more awake. No reverse raccoon circles, or crepey powdery under eyes here, this stuff makes you look airbrushed and like you had an extra two hours sleep than what the concealer gave you!
Translucent Loose Setting Powder *- A true makeup artists favourite loved by many; People seem to feel very passionately about this loose powder! Never chalky, never cakey, this just gives you velvety skin in all the right places and anchors down your base until you decide to take it off.
Tightline Cake Eyeliner - This will be the blackest eyeliner you ever use. How's that for a bold statement? I completely stand behind it. You mix this up with a bit or water, or something like Make Up For Ever's Aqua Seal, and it becomes the sootiest, inkiest black liquid and it dries uber matte and totally waterproof. I'll never be without it.
Lip Parfaits *- I raved about the formula of these lip balm/lipstick hybrids in this review here. These slip on like a balm, but with the colour of a lipstick and I found them to be super smoothing and forgiving of dry lips or lines in the lips. The colour range is fabulous as well, and the nude colours are actually pigmented to show up on my naturally dark lips!
