2013 | The Best Makeup Bits

Well folks, this was a toughie. After a month long hiatus from Girl Loves Gloss (you can thank my having to have all 4 wisdom teeth removed and subsequently having a bad reaction to the pain killers and not eating for 9... yep I said NINE days) I had plenty of time to think about what post I should kick off 2014 with, and undoubtably it had to be about my absolute favourites of 2013. This is Part One - the Makeup. Stay tuned for Skin, Hair and Nails coming soon!

This year I had some serious revelations in the way of skincare and makeup, and I've done my best to narrow them down with the main points as to why I love them.  Let's crack on with this, shall we?

 MAKEUP | Face |

Illamasqua Hydra Veil hits the top of the list for my best makeup discovery of 2013. Nothing keeps my makeup looking fresher longer and keeps the dry flakys at bay. Its an absolute MUST HAVE I don't ever want to be without. Along the lines of never being without, Bronzer and Blush both went to Tarte this year, but that didn't surprise you one bit did it? Read about my love of Tarte's Amazonian Clay Blushes here, and the Tarte Park Avenue Princess Matte Waterproof Bronzer here and here. In the glow department I found myself reaching for products to mix with a base the most this year, and Clarins Instant Light Complexion Perfector really did it for me. Foundation was a bit of a toss up between Makeup Forever Face and Body, Mac Studio Sculpt and Illamasqua Skin Base, with honourable mention going to Dior's Diorskin Nude BB Cream for a lighter option.  What can I say, I love a good base...

MAKEUP | Eyes |

Anyone who really knows me knows I am a total eyeshadow and mascara junkie. I have a serious collection of shadows and have tried every mascara in the book {well maybe not every one, but I am working on it!} This years winners for eye colour were a bit all over; Mac Blanc Type, Ploof!, Kid and Handwritten took home the award for my most used neutrals, Bare Minerals Ready Shadow Palette in The Dream Sequence and Marc Jacobs The Tease Palette for best colour ( can you tell I love purples and plums?) and L'Oreal Infallible Shadow in Amber Rush for best all-over-only-one-shadow-needed shade. Favourite cream formula went to Benefit's Creaseless Cream in RSVP and Dior's Fusion Mono in Chimere.
Most used liners hands down went to Urban Decay's 24/7 formula, most notably the inky matte black Perversion, and Mac's Chromagraphic Pencil in NC15/NW20 for keeping these peepers looking bright eyed and perky. Speaking of bright eyed, nothing gives you that doe eyed look like a great eye lash curler and do it all lengthening and volumizing mascara. Winners without a doubt went to Shu Uemura and Cover Girl Lash Blast Waterproof. I wont be without either. Ever.
To keep these shades looking their absolute best, I undoubtably reach for Nars Pro Prime Smudgeproof Shadow Base. I've tried them all girls, and this is tops.

MAKEUP | Lips |

This was the year I really started venturing out into more lip products. Previously I really was a balm girl, with the best in show nod going to Jack Black's Intense Therapy in Natural Mint for a clear balm, and Clarins Instant Light Lip Perfector in 05 for a gorgeous peachy pink glow, that I will forever rebuy. The product that really blew me away this year though was YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stains. Yep the name is a mouth full, but the colour selection, payoff, and lasting power make them worth every one of your pennies. Favourite shades are #16 and #27.
